ROLLERSKI MAINTENANCE ADVICE FROM A PRO SKIER!!

Good news if you are thinking about purchasing a pair of rollerskis.
There is very little maintenance or servicing required.

All you need to add to your initial purchase is a spare inner tube in case you have a leak due to a flat tire. Rare as this may be it’s quite possible that you may get a flat tire from a sharp stone, needle, shard of glass or other. So you have to pay attention to your surroundings as you rollerski.

The rollerski bearings are sealed from dirt and water and the only preventative measure you need to do to prolong your bearing’s life is to spray them with PL100. As you spray assure that you turn the wheel so as to have the liquid PL100 penetrate through the bearing. You may want to also flip the wheels so they wear evenly on both sides. But you would only need to do this if you do a lot of rollerskiing on a regular basis. If that’s the case you would only flip them once a year.

Avoid jumping off cliffs or out of airplanes with your rollerskis and in that way you will never bend the frame or pop off a wheel. Seriously you may do lower impact stunts with them say in a skate park but avoid jumping more than a couple of inches with them as they aren’t made for jumping high due to the causal effects of impact. Jumping on and off the sidewalks is okay and actually the thing to do if traffic becomes dense or dangerous. If you’re looking for more speed and nimbleness add 10 pounds to the recommended PSI or deflate to less than 10 pounds PSI if you want a better or more strenuous workout.

Your rollerski poles also need a little maintenance with the ferrules needing to eventually be adjusted and changed. If the ferrules become crooked or broken make sure to change them for new ones otherwise you will encounter pole slippage. Likewise the poles straps may become tattered or frayed with extreme use. Don’t wait for your pole straps to break otherwise you’ll be unable to use your poles.

Be careful not to overuse or abuse your reverse lock front wheels. Especially if you weigh more than 200 pounds and you intend to rollerski up steep hills of more than 10%. Being heavy and constantly rollerskiing uphill might prematurely wear out your reverse lock or ratchet front wheels. A smart way to prevent this is to purchase 2 extra reverse lock wheels to make 4 ratchet/reverse lock wheels on your pair of rollerskis.

It’s the same problem if you’re always rollerskiing down steep slopes. You’ll prematurely wear out your rollerski brakes. It might take a year or two of intense use but if your brakes become thin change them for new ones. It’ll be a pity if you lose control and crash because your brakes are not functioning. So examine them regularly and if necessary spend a couple of dollars and take a few minutes to change them for a new pair. Safety rhythms with pleasure. Remember this and you’ll go far!!

Always check your rollerski pole and rollerski adjustments on a regular basis and contact us before something breaks or becomes unusable!! We have every part and accessory in stock ready to be sent out to you. If your item seems to be nearing the end of its life call or email us and we’ll send you a brand new replacement. The German, Italian and Czech products that we sell are of high quality and resilient to normal wear & tear. But eventually you may need a replacement. Follow my advice and foresee the problem before it becomes problematic. Don’t deprive yourself of doing a healthy and exciting activity. Do like me and have a nearby back up or spare. And always have your cellphone on you when rollerskiing so as have access to your wife, husband or friend if you have a problem or accident.

Another savvy thing to haul is a credit card, Medicare card and driver’s license. It’s not so much about the danger but more about the convenience of say having a credit card on yourself. Imagine going on a super long rollerski ride. You underestimated the heat and your thirsty. What do you do? Stop at a convenience store and get a sports drink. Same advice goes if you unfortunately get a flat tire. Always have a spare tire on you when you’re rollerskiing. Like the cards and cellphone. It might save you some frustration if necessary. Plus these items weigh next to nothing.

I am not just another rollerski reseller, I’m an avid and expert rollerskier who uses rollerskiing for fitness for cross country ski racing.
